"I close my eyes to see"

With each new work, I embark on a powerful journey that draws on spontaneity and symbolism to bridge the gap between the conscious and the subconscious.

This vehicle of spontaneity enables me to receive and achieve the image in a number of ways – my own reflective writing, visiting new places and relaxation. The finished work represents a tangible item brought into the conscious.

The occurrence of symbols in my paintings not only serve to aid the process but are reflections of my energy, spirit and inner psyche. In this sense, I would consider my work to be within the domain of surrealism.

The resulting abstract shapes have a symbolic meaning and it is from this that I derive so much satisfaction in crafting the image. I am acutely interested in the on-looker’s interpretation and feel that I indirectly reveal something of that individual’s own inner psyche.

The challenging underlying message, which may not be immediately obvious, precipitates the abstract debate and enables the viewer to apply his or her own meaning to the embedded symbols and the image as a whole.
